Ebook About When Trace Riley finds the smoldering ruins of a small wagon train, he recognizes the hand behind the attack as the same group who left him as sole survivor years ago. Living off the wilderness since then, he'd finally carved out a home and started a herd--while serving as a self-appointed guardian of the trail, driving off dangerous men. He'd hoped those days were over, but the latest attack shows he was wrong.Deborah Harkness saved her younger sister and two toddlers during the attack, and now finds herself at the mercy of her rescuer. Trace offers the only shelter for miles around, and agrees to take them in until she can safely continue. His simple bachelor existence never anticipated kids and women in the picture and their arrival is unsettling--yet enticing. Working to survive the winter and finally bring justice to the trail, Trace and Deborah find themselves drawn together--yet every day approaches the moment she'll leave forever.Book The Accidental Guardian (High Sierra Sweethearts Book #1) Review :
I LOVE trilogy series by Mary Connealy. I love her heroes even more. They always have unique quirks that endear them to me. This series opener is no exception. Trace is wonderful! He is so protective even while he's terrified/trying to figure out the strange creatures that are women. Mary has fun humor woven into her work and I enjoy that so much. This story has the trademark action, danger, humor, and swoon worthy men striving to woo and protect their strong women every Mary Connealy book possesses.I always find myself wishing I could be the heroine in one of Mary's books, and this time - I sort of am. So this is kinda my favorite book. But then, every newest Mary C book becomes my favorite. If you like good clean romance where the men are men and women get the respect due them (with a good bit of humor tossed in), then I say get this book. Highly entertaining and something you can feel very good about once you hit THE END. This is a hard review for me to write because I have DEVOURED some of Mary Connealy's past books. Her Montana Brides trilogy and the Kincaide Brothers are some of my favorites, but in the past several years her books haven't quite grasped my attention, so I stopped reading. Someone told me this latest series was "Classic Connealy," so I picked it up. It is definitely not "Classic Connealy," though I wish it was.Her earlier books included believable characters that I connected with and wanted to know more about. Her story telling pulled me in and held my attention until the very end. This book, however, did not. I don't fully fault Connealy, as I've noticed this trend throughout the industry -- the more books an author puts out, the lower the quality seems to be (I have my conspiracy theories for this).Focusing on this book, though, the characters are immature and inconsistent (a hermit cowboy who's uncomfortable around women, yet he talks for whole paragraphs at a time), information was repeated unnecessarily (I lost track of how many times we're told that Gwen's better with the kids), and there were long sections of backstory that wasn't really needed. I skimmed many pages to get back to the action and see how the story ended. I really wanted this book to jump back into the Classic Connealy style that I love, but had to force myself to finish the book. Please don't judge Connealy on this book. Instead, go back to her early works and enjoy those (2013 and earlier).
